On the approx. 1km long, barrier-free circular hiking trail around the Angelbecksteich, people with walking and visual disabilities have the opportunity to experience the unique nature of the Südheide.

Hiking for everyone

The main circular hiking trail around the "Feuerlöschteich" (fire extinguishing pond) was paved barrier-free over a length of approx. 1 km and a guide device was installed for visually impaired walkers. The path is easily accessible for both wheelchairs and prams. The attractive structural facilities, such as wide benches or covered open space on the pond, invite visitors to linger.

Around the Angelbecksteich the visitor finds the characteristic heath landscape with its typical plants and animals. On a small hill there is a memorial stone which was erected on the occasion of the great forest fire in 1975.

In the area there are information boards, which should arouse and deepen the interest in the unique nature and landscape in the nature park. For the blind a summary in Braille has been installed. In this way, the approx. 500 km² Südheide Nature Park with its large forest and heath areas, as well as the rare animal and plant species, its dreamy heath streams and lonely moors, can also be experienced barrier-free.

Both the circular hiking trail and the associated rest area and car park with disabled WC (from Whitsun to October) were developed by the district of Celle, as the responsible body of the nature park, with the support of state and European funds.

Route profile
