Bodenteich Castle
was built around the year 1250 as a moated castle by the Knights of Bodendike. The
partially still intact castle keep dating from the 14 and 15
centuries (wall thickness: 3.5 metres) today bears a glass dome and serves as
an observation point. Visitors will also find an exhibition on medieval weapons
and defence engineering and information about astronomy in the Middle Ages.

The old
administrative building in the main castle houses the castle
museum with displays of archaeological excavations, information about the
castle’s history and the market town of Bodenteich as well as other regional
treasures.

Bodenteich Castle
is the venue for numerous events such as shooting competitions, Robin Hood
tournaments, creativity courses, Christmas markets, castle concerts, special
exhibitions and Castle Days with activities about the “Middle Ages and more” in
the reconstructed bakery and a grand Castle Spectacular with a medieval market.

The
castle museum on the top floor of the main building features a “cobblers’
workshop”
and an exhibition about the “linen weaving trade”. Other
departments address the Bodendieck knightly dynasty, Bodenteich market
town, excavation findings at Bodenteich Castle
 andurns and
Stone Age artefacts from the region.
