The Junkernfeld in Unterse Seeveniederung is home to probably the largest snake's head fritillary occurrence in Germany, covering an area of 130 ha.

The area is characterized by its extensive grassland use. Due to high groundwater levels, large wetland meadows have developed, which are sites for the endangered snake's head fritillary. This plant sometimes occurs in large groups here.

The snake's head fritillary flowers at the end of April / beginning of May and attracts numerous nature lovers every year. In order to admire the flowering without destroying the plants, the Naturschutzstiftung (Conservation Foundation) creates a Snake's Head Fritillary Path every spring.

Even outside the flowering period, Untere Seeveniederung Nature Reserve is a popular destination for naturalists, especially for bird lovers.

The valuable habitat types also include the reed beds, sedge areas, and tall forb communities as well as numerous standing and running waters. Groups of shrubs break up and enhance the flat meadows.

Information panels on site provide interesting facts about the specialities of nature in Unteren Seeveniederung.
