Round cycle tour Wienhausen via Lachendorf

- from Allerheide to Allerdreckwiesen

The meadow landscape of the Aller is at the centre of this cycle tour.

Experience the variety of bird life in the nature reserve "Allerdreckwiesen". Today, nature once again has more room to develop in the floodplains. Cultural treasures like the Cistercian Cloister in Wienhausen and the house of the history of paper in Lachendorf are well worth a visit.

Special features of the tour

Allerdreckwiesen nature reserve – high water for lapwing and common snipe

The Allerdreckwiesen are a 568-hectare nature reserve. The wetlands with their species-rich bird life developed through the former rural use of the low-lying moor. Typical wetland breeders such as lapwings, curlews and common snipe came here regularly until the meadows were heavily drained in the 1960s. An area of about two hectares will be rewetted under the leadership of the German Nature Conservation Association (NABU) Group Lachendorf. Meanwhile, a second larger wetting area has emerged on the opposite surface. The Ahnsbeck canal has been diverted to provide the necessary water. Rewetting is expected to bring back the typical plants and animals of the wetlands.

Aller lowlands near Osterloh – experience nature with the white stork and his friends

Welcome to the Aller lowlands near Osterloh, where you can experience the diversity and beauty of a flood plain. Lookout hills provide sweeping views of the impressive floodplain landscape. Display boards and audio stations introduce the inhabitants of this habitat. Since 2008, numerous wetlands and dry habitats have been created on a 38-hectare site as part of the NABU project "Nature conservation and experience nature in the Aller lowlands in Osterloh”. Discover the new ponds and dunes: they give the fire-bellied toad, the white stork and the field cricket a new home.

Langlingen lock and lido – swimming in the former riverbed of the Aller

The first weir at Langlingen lock was built in 1862 from oak logs. It dammed the water for the mill in Wienhausen, where electricity has been generated since 1908 and still is today. The restaurant Landgasthof Allerparadies welcomes its guests at the site of the former lock keeper's house. The modernisation of Langlingen lock also changed the course of the river Aller. A lido now occupies a section of the former riverbed. The boat slide on the weir is a special challenge for courageous canoeists.

Langlingen - Visit historic farmhouses

Langlingen boasts an impressive stock of historic farmhouses. The centrepiece is the village museum in Langlingen, which is housed in an old granary from 1722. The lively museum of local history is open every second Sunday of the month and invites visitors to participate in action days. Discover the farmhouse, the granary, the capstan house and the herb garden on your tour! Also very much worth a visit are St. Johanniskirche church from the year 1335 and its rediscovered vaulted ceiling full of angels. Next to the church is the historic ensemble of the Gutshof Mylius estate, whose history dates back to the 13th century.
