Built in 1435-1438 in the style of a Lower Saxon farmhouse, the old watermill in Mueden (Oertze) got its present appearance all the way back then. It is one of the most romantic places in Mueden where couples can say “I do” in a very special atmosphere.

Interesting facts about the old mill

Until the mid-1960s, a miller was working here in the mill, which is powered by a big water wheel. Later on, a saw mill was added to the existing grain mill which was powered by so-called Francis pit turbines. The sawmill was operated until the 1950s, the grain mill even until 1965. After the restoration of the mill between 1989 and 1997, this historical building today accommodates a wedding room, exhibition rooms and a library.

Thanks to the newly created circulating channel, fish and small animals can get to the upper waters completely undisturbed.

There is also an herb garden and an orchard meadow near the watermill.

Watermill as power generator

The smaller one of the turbines subsequently installed in the annex nowadays produces 7 kW via a generator, about 100-300 kW electricity per day, making sure that the lights never go off in the Mueden mill. Excess electricity is fed into the local power grid.

Tourist Information

You will also find the tourist information office at the watermill whose team will be happy to help and assist you with any questions or booking requests in Mueden.
