Hanseatic Town of Uelzen

Uelzen

Welcome to the hanseatic town of Uelzen!

“A station as colourful as a fantasy fairy-tale world” – that was how
the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser had planned his last works. The
ingenious artist from Vienna created a wonderful work of art that has turned
the small heath and hanseatic town into a showcase of art and culture. Take a
tour of the Hundertwasser
station
Uelzen and ponder your impressions as you stroll through
streets of timber-framed houses. Experience cosy coffee shops in pedestrianised zones,
down to earth restaurants and wonderful stores on your tour of
Uelzen.

"The pathway of the stones"

Follow the artistic and colourful "pathway
of the stones"
 from the "Hundertwasser
Station" to the town centre. The 21 bright and cheerful sculptures by
German-Swedish artist Dagmar Glemme speak of dreams, love, wisdom, paradise and
music. You can find further information about the stones, the artist and
numerous photos on this website and at the Town & Tourist Information
Office.

A swimming pool landscape beckons in the town centre BADUE. Guests
love the fun of the 50-metre slide, the sports pool and the diving boards in
the summer. You can also keep fit in cooler seasons in the generous indoor pool
and relax in the sauna landscape and wellness area.

Here’s another tip for a special excursion in
December:
the
Old Town Hall is transformed into a magical Advent calendar for four weeks. It
is located at the heart of the decorated town and is the evening meeting point
for the Window Opening ritual. “Window Opening” is an iconic occasion in
Uelzen. Thousands of people convene here every year, sing carols together and
watch an angel open a window on the Advent calendar. It is tradition for the
State Premier of Lower Saxony to hold a speech on the evening of December 23
and share his thoughts with the many visitors. And the Christmas market beckons
daily – with fairy-tale huts, a carousel and a skating rink.
